Fresh polling from Oklahoma says Ron DeSantis is within striking distance of Donald Trump in a hypothetical 2024 Presidential Primary.
As first reported by The Oklahoman, Trump holds a modest 9-point lead over the Florida Governor. In a survey from Cole, Hargrave, Snodgrass and Associates, 38% of the 300 registered Republicans polled say they back Trump, with 29% preferring DeSantis, and 11% of voters saying they are undecided.
Other candidates are farther back in the survey. Six percent of respondents say they back either former Vice President Mike Pence or former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley. An additional 4% say they back U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, the winner of the 2016 Oklahoma GOP Primary. Cruz says he has ruled out a 2024 run to concentrate on his Senate re-election campaign.
The Oklahoma poll was in the field from March 27 through March 30, before the former President’s 34-count federal indictment from Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. The indictment accused Trump of trying to “catch and kill” potentially unfavorable stories ahead of his 2016 presidential campaign, and before his arrest in New York City last week.
Polling from neighboring Texas conducted in the wake of Trump’s indictment is significantly worse for DeSantis, meanwhile.
A survey conducted between March 30 and April 2 by CWS Research and commissioned by the Defend Texas Liberty PAC finds the former President is supported by more than half of those surveyed, with more than double the support of the Florida Governor, who still is his nearest competition.
Fifty-two percent of the 1,067 likely voters in the 2024 Republican Primary say they back Trump, with just 20% claiming to back DeSantis.
Meanwhile, recent polling from nearby Iowa tells a similar story. In a survey of 608 likely Iowa caucus participants from J.L. Partners, the former President commands 41% support, 15 points ahead of the Florida Governor. That poll was in the field from March 25 through April 4, the day of Trump’s arrest.

Orange Berlusconi and Mini Hitler… neither one will win a presidential election. Just too far right. If anything, Trump will run third party and split the vote to favor the Dems… monster victory for the Dems. It’s all over in 2024. The Dems could run Mike Lindell and he would win over Orange Berlusconi or Mini Hitler.
