Florida’s junior Senator is speaking out in the wake of an assassination attempt on Donald Trump and subsequent reporting that Iran was also plotting to kill the Republican presidential nominee in plans unrelated to the shooting at a rally in Pennsylvania.

During an appearance on Fox Business, U.S. Sen. Rick Scott said Secret Service head Kimberly Cheatle has got to go.

“She has to be taking responsibility. Sometimes that means you have to say, ‘Look, I failed and I’ve got to leave my job.’ That’s what happens, unfortunately. So if it was her responsibility to make sure this was done, right, I don’t know how she can continue to keep her job,” Scott told host Stuart Varney.

During the same interview, Scott reiterated calls for greater accountability from heads of federal law enforcement given the events and revelations of recent days.

“We don’t know enough. So I think it’s important for Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, for the Director of the Secret Service, for (FBI head) Christopher Wray all to come out and give us more information,” Scott added.

He said it was important to have real information because “if they don’t, it’s just going to be all innuendo.”

“The leadership has got to be transparent. They’ve got to say this is what we know. This is what happened and this is how somebody’s going to be held accountable because somebody messed up. There never should have been shots at the (former) President. So we’ve got to find this out. They need to explain what Iran’s trying to do, why this shooter was on this roof,” the Senator said.

“The shooter was there, what, a minute and a half before the shots were fired? And no one stopped him,” Scott added. “This doesn’t make any sense to Americans.”

Scott had previously called for heads of federal law enforcement agencies to speak to a Senate committee in the immediate wake of the attempt on Trump’s life.

“It is a miracle that President Trump is alive and well but inexcusable that the deranged would-be assassin had a direct line of sight to the former President and the leading candidate for President of the United States,” Scott said Saturday.

“The U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs (HSGAC) has an oversight responsibility and an obligation to the American people to demand answers from (the Department of Homeland Security) and the U.S. Secret Service on how this happened and what steps are being taken to investigate this assassination attempt and make sure it never happens again.”
