John Rutherford, running as a Republican from Florida’s 4th Congressional District, leaked his campaign finance information early to the Florida Times-Union.
So, it was known that Rutherford had raised $373,570, and had $255,856 on hand as of June 30.
Less well known: the diverse group of contributors who support Rutherford’s campaign for Congress.
Parvez Ahmed, a member of the Jacksonville Human Rights Commission and a professor at the University of North Florida, gave $250.
Former Jacksonville City Councilman Matt Carlucci ponied up $1,000.
Giving $750 to Rutherford: State Attorney Angela Corey, a longtime political ally of Rutherford’s, who was endorsed by him months back.
Former Jacksonville City Councilman Kevin Hyde of Foley and Lardner gave $500 to Rutherford — and another $500 to one of his primary opponents, Lake Ray.
Current Jacksonville City Councilman Jim Love also went $500 deep.
The expected money, from Padgetts, Demetrees, Petways, and other such names who typically populate this region’s campaign finance reports, is there … for the most part.
A notable exception, as was the case with the Rutherford PAC: Peter Rummell, who was quoted in the Times-Union encouraging Rutherford to get in the race months back, and who hosted a “Rutherford Founders Roundup” fundraiser at his home June 13.
Perhaps coincidentally, Rummell donated $10,000 to “First Coast Values”, the PAC of Angela Corey’s opponent, Melissa Nelson in June.
