Our apologies

The lawsuit could have an impact far outside the well-to-do South Florida town.

The content previously published in this space has been removed.

As it turns out, Florida Politics was unable to independently verify some of the claims made in the lawsuit previously referenced here. Because FP aims for the highest journalistic standards — and because the issue previously described here is unworthy of the attention of a statewide news outlet — we have, in an abundance of caution, removed the content previously published in this space. We have also retracted a draft of a legal document we received, the contents of which have been challenged.

We apologize to John and Margaret Thornton, the subjects of the reporting previously published in this space, for any mischaracterization of them the reporting may have caused.

Equal protection covers ALL situations, not just race and sexual discrimination, there was actually another case similar to this and the city government lost. The laws made can not discriminate against ANY citizen. You will see this as a secondary argument when the lawsuit is filed against Florida’s Amendment 13. You have 3 pari mutual sports in Florida (horses, greyhounds, jai alai), to ban one and not the others IS a violation of the 14th Amendment and equal protection

Drew: Great article. If you’d like to learn more about my personal gripes about Passidomo who doesn’t recuse herself from legislative issues concerning Collier Properties feel free to contact me.

Have you ever considered how the Beach Access law benefitted Rick Scott and the Passidomos who own coastland property? The same types of fights are happening in Naples at this moment over the construction of a new garage at Clam Pass.

I favor a beach access design which protects the Mangroves and wildlife. I do not think that the property values of people who live adjacent to the site deserve any attention. Those property sold for less because they were adjacent for the park. If they didn’t want the traffic generated by beachgoers, they should have bought elsewhere.
