Knox Medical, one of the first companies to earn a statewide medical marijuana license in Florida, is being re-branded as “Fluent.”

The dispensary network is owned by Cansortium. Its founder and CEO, Jose J. Hidalgo, released a statement on the move Thursday.

“Rebranding as Fluent reflects the next step in our journey to redefining the medical cannabis experience for customers,” Hidalgo said.

“Today’s society is becoming fluent in cannabis, learning and gaining a deeper understanding of its impacts on health and wellness.”

Gov. Ron DeSantis has supported the expansion of the medical marijuana industry, approving eight new licenses back in April.

He also pushed the Legislature to pass a bill last Session allowing for a smokable form of the drug. DeSantis signed that bill into law in March.

Fluent, then known as Knox Medical, began selling medical marijuana in 2017. There are currently 10 Fluent dispensaries in the state, with another 20 locations scheduled to open, according to the company.

The company is also investing in operations in Texas, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, as well as Canada and Colombia.

Cansortium, Fluent’s parent company, is a global medical cannabis company which is publicly traded on the Canadian Securities Exchange.

“Since the company’s first sales in 2017, we have served tens of thousands of customers,” Hidalgo noted.

“Our expanding network of Fluent dispensaries will continue this commitment, offering premium medical cannabis at locations that provide our customers with an unrivaled experience.”
