Another Miami-Dade County mayor is backing state Rep. Manny Diaz in his run for Florida Senate. Doral Mayor Juan Carlos Bermudez has thrown his support behind Diaz, joining the mayors of Hialeah and Hialeah Gardens.
“Manny Diaz is very well positioned to be an effective state senator,” said Bermudez. “He knows our area well and has served us with vision, integrity, and tenacity during his time in the Florida House. I look forward to sending him back to Tallahassee as our Senator and continuing to work with him for the good of all of our mutual constituents.”
As noted by Bermudez, Diaz is no stranger to the South Florida political scene, representing House District 103 since 2012. HD 103 covers Doral, Hialeah and Hialeah Gardens. Diaz’s move to Senate District 36 would have him serving portions of both Miami-Dade and Broward counties.
Current state Sen. Rene Garcia is unable to run again in SD 36 due to term limits. That opened the door for Diaz, who has picked up plenty of support.
Diaz commented on the latest endorsement, saying, “Mayor Bermudez is an outstanding public servant, and I’m proud to add him to our team.” Diaz added, “Throughout his career, he has always demonstrated a commitment to hard work and excellence, and I look forward to working with him in continuing service to our community.”
Diaz is the only Republican who has filed to run in SD 36. On the Democratic side, only Muhammad Amin has formally declared.
